The Llobregat River was also called the Industrial River and, also, the most hard-working river, due to the large number of industries that were located on its banks to take advantage of its strong flow.
The textile colonies of the Llobregat river are a group of industrial colonies that were built during the second half of the 19th century along this river course.
They make up a heritage of great value that allows us to remember one of the essential chapters of the industrialization process of Catalonia.
The Textile Colonies Route is a 32 km route that runs parallel to the Llobregat River from Cal Rosal to Balsareny, crossing 16 industrial colonies from the 19th and 20th centuries.
This itinerary allows you to discover the past of the textile industry in Catalonia. Some of these colonies have been turned into museums and guided and dramatized tours are offered to see personally what life and work in the textile industry was like.
In the Bages region, there is an important concentration of textile colonies that can be visited.
A waterfall of the Llobregat, in Latin Salientis, gave its name to the municipality of Sallent. In this population there were industries of all kinds, taking advantage of the force of the water.
The most important was Cal Ramon, a textile factory from 1818, of which only a few walls and the chimney next to the river remain today.
