Did you know that you have one of the best wine tourism destinations in the world very close?

This year, Muga celebrates a very high recent title: position 49, among the 100 best wineries in the world, in the World’s Best Vineyards 2023 list, which covers the five continents and recognizes the best vineyard experiences. This was announced by the contest held in La Rioja, in which the main wine tourism destinations of 2023 were revealed. The list, which is now in its third edition, highlights the best winery destinations in the world and takes into consideration the nominations of almost 500 experts in wine, travel and wine tourism from all over the planet.

Last year it celebrated its recognition as one of the 12 best wineries in Europe for wine tourism. This was considered by the British wine media Decanter. Previously, it had already been awarded the Best Of International award, in the category of Innovative Experiences and Sustainable Practices, for its wide range of wine tourism activities. Such as the visit to the vineyard on a Segway, the introductory tasting course or the balloon ride with a traditional Riojan lunch. A very interesting way to learn, from within, the origin of the wines made by a historic winery.

“We are very pleased to receive this award, which is the result of the work of the winery’s entire wine tourism team and all of our travel companions and partners, who complement our wonderful tourism offer and help us project our brand image inside and outside. of our borders”, celebrated Juan Muga, third generation of Muga. “My father Manolo, my uncle Isacín and my aunt Isabel have already decided to open the doors of the winery to publicize our traditions, gastronomy and way of understanding wine culture. A passion and a philosophy that we continue to champion since the third generation. This recognition is born from the legacy transmitted by the second generation,” he highlighted.

Muga is a historic winery, a family business founded by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño in 1932 and located in the historic La Estación neighborhood of Haro, in La Rioja. And also a winery where sustainability is an important factor. So much so that the winery has the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection certificate, as well as photovoltaic installations that currently cover 33% of the total annual consumption of its facilities.

Muga offers a set of experiences that bring La Rioja and wine closer to everyone. Like, for example, touring some of its vineyards on a Segway to enjoy nature in a sustainable and modern way. After the walk, you will take a guided tour of the winery, artisanal cooperage included, with a subsequent tasting with an explanation of its winemaking method and philosophy.

Another of Muga’s star activities is a balloon ride, followed by a traditional Riojan lunch. For approximately one hour, you will fly over the vineyards and fields of the area, always at the mercy of the wind. The well-deserved lunch will arrive later. The activity can be completed with a visit to the winery.

Another more classic option, but no less interesting, is to visit what is one of the most traditional and avant-garde wineries in La Rioja. A tour through the world of wine is always a reason for learning and surprise. The imposing wooden vats, the serenity of the aging rooms, the heat and smell of the cooperage will make you participate in an unparalleled experience. For a tasting course, the Espacio Torre Muga room awaits you.
