Diana Morant will be the next general secretary of the PSPV. In a meeting held in Ferraz of the three pre-candidates, in addition to Diana the provincial presidents in Alicante and Valencia, Alejandro Soler and Carlos Fernández Bielsa, an integration agreement forced by the leadership of the PSOE was reached, for a single list, according to sources close to Morant. An official statement of the agreement is currently awaited.

The three pre-candidates, who had made their project to lead the party official yesterday, had been summoned this morning at the PSOE headquarters to try to close an agreement with the presence of the Secretary of Organization, Santos Cerdán. After several hours of meeting, Alejandro Soler and Bielsa have agreed to join a candidacy led by Diana Morant, who will finally replace Ximo Puig at the head of the second Valencian federation.

The details of the agreement and what will be the distribution of power of the new executive who must be elected at the end of March in the extraordinary congress of the PSPV are still unknown. But it is evident that the provincial secretaries of Valencia and Alicante are going to have executive power in the new party executive. This agreement also means that the votes that were scheduled for the last weekend of February (first round) and first of March (second) will not be held.

The option of a consensus list has always been on the table. In fact, the intervention of the federal leadership was expected or feared (according to sources) since there were many doubts that Ferraz was going to throw an entire minister from Pedro Sánchez’s cabinet into a primary. Although it took a while, the intervention has taken place and the party’s Organization manager has sat the candidates at a table to force an agreement between the parties to avoid confrontation at the polls.

And this despite the fact that the day before Bielsa had defended a “calm change” to form an “autonomous project” and Soler had even questioned whether Morant could have adequate time to dedicate to the party given her status as minister. Even yesterday it seemed that the two provincial leaders had some agreement regarding a possible agreement.

Although the two provincial leaders have never hidden their willingness to battle for the General Secretariat and to face the minister in a primary process, until this Tuesday, the federal leadership has not forced the agreement. Yes, it is true that the pressure had increased in recent days, but it was not until this Tuesday that all the cards were put on the table.
