Threads, Meta’s alternative to Twitter, has arrived this Thursday in more than a hundred countries around the world and, although it has only been running for a few hours, some users have already discovered that if they want to cancel their account on this new social network, they can also delete the one from Instagram.
In order to create an account in Threads, the existing Instagram account is used, which allows importing both the username and the contacts. This despite the fact that the new ‘app’ is completely independent.
After months of leaks, this Thursday it has started working in more than a hundred countries, although it is not available in the European Union due to the stricter regulation of privacy and data protection.
However, users who have already been able to create an account and start using the new social network have discovered that if they delete their profile, they also delete their Instagram account. In fact, Meta itself specifies it in the complementary privacy policy: “Although you can deactivate your Threads profile at any time, you can only delete it if you also delete your Instagram account.”
