Darius Morris, former Los Angeles Lakers player, among other NBA teams, died at the age of 33, as his family announced this Saturday. The American point guard was a teammate of Pau Gasol in the Los Angeles franchise for two years, between 2011 and 2013.

The cause of death was not disclosed. The American media TMZ reported that Morris’ body was found Thursday in the Los Angeles area, where he was a native. “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris,” Morris’ family told TMZ. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you respect his wishes for privacy and grace,” the message continued.

The Lakers said in a post to X that they were “heartbroken by the passing” of Morris. The point guard was chosen in the second round of the draft by the Lakers in 2011. He averaged 3.3 points in 132 career games (17 starts) with the Lakers and four other teams in four NBA seasons.

After closing his journey in the NBA, he played professionally in China and France, and played for the last time in the 2019-20 season, marked by the outbreak of the pandemic. The Los Angeles player retired when he was only 29 years old.
