The Barcelona Court held a closed-door hearing this Tuesday to assess Dani Alves’ request for provisional release, while the appeals against the sentence that sentenced him to four and a half years in prison for raping a young woman in December 2022.
The hearing began punctually at nine in the morning, in section 21 of the Court. The player’s defense, the Prosecutor’s Office and the victim’s lawyer have intervened. The last two have opposed provisional release, ensuring that after the conviction, the risk of escape is now much greater.
The president of the chamber has offered Alves the opportunity to speak, which he has taken advantage of to reaffirm that he has no intention of taking advantage of provisional freedom to evade justice. “I won’t run away,” she clarified. The Brazilian has followed the hearing by videoconference from the Brians 2 prison, where he was transferred in January 2023, after his arrest.
The hearing was called at the request of his defense, carried out by the lawyer Inés Guardiola, who arrived at the Barcelona Court shortly before 9 a.m. Just before, the victim’s lawyer, Ester García, did it. Both have made statements at the end of the hearing, ratifying their positions and waiting for the court’s resolution to be communicated this week.
Guardiola has proposed precautionary measures to the court that would guarantee the footballer’s commitment to justice. From the delivery of his passport, to the periodic signature at judicial offices as well as a significant amount of money that he has presented as a guarantee that this escape will not occur, as a guarantee.
That newspaper already reported that Alves was waiting to collect several million euros from the Public Treasury. Money that is what has been made available to justice today.
