Cristina Villanueva is better than ever. Now, her detractors do not think the same, because day in and day out, she faces multiple comments about her physical appearance. According to the most critical, her good know-how, talent, charisma, friendliness and long professional career matter little, since her “plump” figure is the only thing that matters.

The journalist opened up in an emotional coaching workshop given by PronoKal, experts in weight loss treatments under a specialized medical protocol; where she opened up about the criticism and how she lives her daily life.

The presenter of La Sexta News gave a statement to the newspaper El Español where she made clear her position towards the opinions of those who allow themselves the luxury of commenting on her physical appearance. “I am not a model and I do not lose weight because I want to be a standard of beauty,” she insists, “I do it for myself and my health. To feel that my life is healthy and that I control it. It has nothing to do with a standard of beauty”.

The journalist claims to be in her best moment after losing some weight in a process that has lasted more than a year, and she suffered from chronic ailments that began with her second birth that did not allow her to enjoy her daily life. For this reason, she decided to put herself in the hands of specialists, incorporating all kinds of healthy habits that have led her to reach her ideal weight.

“I have an injury and losing weight helped me a lot to eliminate pain,” explains the journalist, “It’s a change, a habit of life. It’s re-educating your life and your brain.”

Villanueva also spoke about mental health and how we live in a society in which “women are enslaved by their image.” The presenter also wanted to talk about her work, making it clear that no one has ever asked her to lose weight to do her job.

“They told me I was chubby, that if I’m pregnant… I’m fine, I feel good. I don’t have to be hyperthin to do television. I’m a journalist, I’m not a model,” she insists. “I can be whatever weight I want.”
