The data provided by the Ministry of the Interior, in its quarterly publication on the comparison of criminal offenses in cities with more than 20,000 inhabitants, show that in Barcelonès Nord crime has increased exponentially during 2022. The cities with the highest crime increase are Sant Adrià del Besòs (22.7%) and Badalona (18.9%) while Santa Coloma de Gramenet stabilizes the statistic with a slight increase (1.8%).
The geographical scope of Barcelonès Nord is below the crime rates of Catalonia and the city of Barcelona. In the Catalan geography there have been 354,618 criminal offences, representing an increase of 25.5%. In the Catalan capital, crimes have skyrocketed by 26.7%. In both cases, the exacerbation of thefts and the different types of robberies stand out.
It is striking in the three cities of Barcelonès Nord that the type of crime that increases the statistics is different in each of them. Thus, in Badalona seven intentional homicides and attempted murders (250%) have been committed, which has triggered the criminal statistics. Robberies with force at homes, establishments and other facilities have almost doubled (from 355 to 671), which represents an increase of 89%. Robberies with violence and intimidation have gone from 819 to 1,070 in one year, 30.6 % more and the 17 penetrative sexual assaults (54.5%) stand out.
In Sant Adrià de Besòs, the type of crime that has increased crime is different. Thefts have skyrocketed at homes and establishments, of which 209 cases have been registered in 2022 (269%) and thefts have gone from 659 in 2021 to 938 last year. On the other hand, attempted intentional homicides have been reduced by 75%, penetrative sexual assaults by 66.7% and vehicle thefts.
In another order, Santa Coloma de Gramenet is the city of Barcelona with the lowest number of crimes reported during 2022. Only the cases of intentional homicides and consummated murders have increased (2) and the same crime in the degree of attempted (5) and crimes against sexual indemnity 15.8%. The rest of criminal actions have decreased. The reduction in robberies with force, drug trafficking, vehicle thefts and penetrative sexual assaults stands out.
