The Fire Department of the Generalitat is working to extinguish a fire of forest vegetation that has burned 2.6 hectares between Sant Vicenç dels Horts and Cervelló (Baix Llobregat), which has forced the confinement of hundreds of neighbors and the activation of the Infocat plan. The fire was brought under control around 5:30 p.m., when the lockdown order ended, and is expected to be extinguished tonight.
The notice had been given at 2:13 p.m. The authorities requested the preventive confinement of the urbanizations that are in the vicinity of the fire, with special attention to the Garcia Farm, where some 400 people live.
Up to 19 land crews and 6 air resources have worked in the effort, with seaplanes and helicopters, as reported by the Bombers. “There is no affectation to any house,” it has been assured.
Sources from the Bombers have explained to EFE that the fire, whose origin is unknown, affects an area of ??forest vegetation between the N-340a highway and kilometer 8 of the B-24, in the vicinity of the Molí dels Frares industrial estate in the town. The mayor of Cervelló, José Ignacio Aparicio, has explained in statements to ACN that the Rural Agents have informed him that the fire could have been caused by negligence or well provoked.
Aparicio has also commented that the affected area is of low vegetation and that fire prevention tasks had previously been carried out, which has facilitated the work of extinction. In addition, the helicopters were able to load water in some security deposits that the municipality has for fires like the one today.
