The Ciutat Vella district has increased the capacity for selective collection of recyclables and paper and cardboard by 30% thanks to the change of containers that will take place from this week until the end of April. Specifically, the paper and cardboard fraction is increased by 40,000 liters and the recyclable fraction by 37,100 liters. The number of containers also increases, 32 more for paper and cardboard, adding to the current 248, and 27 more for recyclables, adding to the existing 164.
The new containers are side-loading and are collected with a smaller vehicle than the current one. This makes it easier for trucks to pass and maneuver on narrow streets and, therefore, also facilitates the collection process.
Changing containers and improving selective waste collection is part of the objectives of Pla Endreça. The Ciutat Vella District has already carried out other actions such as changing the pneumatic collection boxes or renewing the litter bins throughout the district.
