BTech engineering, one of the promoters together with QEV of the Nissan decarbonization hub, has reached an agreement with the Chinese manufacturer Chery to study the manufacture in Barcelona of 50,000 SUVs per year. The two parties have signed a memorandum of intent today in China to analyze this possibility which, if materialized, would mean a qualitative boost in the hub project.
The agreement, advanced by La Tribuna de Automoción, would make Chery the first Chinese manufacturer to produce in Spain. It would do so with its Omoda division, specializing above all in urban SUVs.
The idea is to assemble cars in Barcelona that would arrive semi-disassembled as a first test for possible subsequent manufactures, sources familiar with the project explained to La Vanguardia.
The hub, which invests in the Free Zone with the support of the Australian real estate logistics group Goodman, could thus manufacture vehicles of three brands: Zeroid, Ebro and Chery.
The agreement has been signed by the CEO of Btech, Rafael Ruiz, and the deputy director of Chery International, Zhu Shaodong.
