One of the great protagonists of the Sálvame universe, more for its silent afternoons than for the content it generated, was Chelo García-Cortés. The Galician journalist, who always took the jokes of her colleagues with sportsmanship, also experienced hard moments on the program. During her time on the Superlativas podcast, presented by Carlota Corredera, she confessed what her worst afternoon was.
As García-Cortés herself has said, her most complicated moment in Sálvame occurred on September 14, 2018. It was not just any date: that afternoon Isabel Pantoja picked up Cantora’s phone to dot her i’s and give her opinion. version of all the controversies that surrounded it.
That call was not made to the program’s phone, but rather the tonadillera called García-Cortés, who gave his cell phone to Corredera herself so that, with her microphone, she could offer Pantoja’s long-awaited words to all of Spain. What really bothered the journalist was that she was dressed as Amy Winehouse.
“It wasn’t cruel for me, but I was very embarrassed to be in disguise. That call had been made on my cell phone, people already knew that the one who was in disguise was Chelo, but I wanted to be Chelo,” lamented the Galician.
For his part, Corredera reminded him that that was a “historic afternoon” in which he achieved a complicated mission such as “keeping Isabel Pantoja on the phone.” García-Cortés, on the other hand, experienced it in a totally different way: “I couldn’t break that wonderful moment on television by taking off my wig. I wanted to run away and get under the table.”
Pantoja, despite her monumental anger, also noticed that the person who was still her friend was in disguise, something that worried her quite a bit and she did not hesitate to ask García-Cortés when she had the slightest opportunity. “The next day, while Isabel and I were still socializing well, early in the morning, we spoke on the phone and she asked me: Why were you dressed up?, and I told her: Now tell me how I have to be on set when you want to call,” the journalist has confessed.
