The new Minister of Economy, Carlos Body, is a prominent member of the exclusive Higher Body of Commercial Technicians and State Economists. since 2008. Trained at the University of Extremadura in Economics in 2003, he has a PhD in Economics from the UAM, a Master in Economic Analysis from the London School of Economics and belongs, since 2008, to the Higher Corps of Commercial Technicians and State Economists.

In the last legislature he was in charge of directing public debt policy as Secretary of State for the Treasury. Those who know him assure that he has been Nadia Calviño’s right hand man. His high work capacity has helped him to follow the intense rhythm that his predecessor imposes on her day-to-day work.

On a personal level, Body is a tireless worker with great team management and negotiation skills on thorny issues thanks to his affable nature. He is very passionate about paddle tennis, a sport that he regularly practices even with his work colleagues. Corporal is also a family man capable, until now, of reconciling his work as head of the Treasury with his responsibilities as a father.

His first steps in administration were taken in the General Directorate of Macroeconomic Analysis in the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. He worked since 2011 for the European Commission as a national expert, exercising responsibilities related to the new Macroeconomic Imbalances Procedure.

It is worth highlighting his work monitoring and analyzing real estate asset markets and private sector debt patterns.

There he stood out enough for José Luis Escrivá, current Minister of Digital Transformation, to choose him to join the then nascent Independent Fiscal Responsibility Authority as deputy director of public debt, two years later he moved to management. During his time in the Airef, he scrutinized each of the lines of the general State budgets to the point of satiety and knew exactly the ins and outs of the State accounts that he will now have to direct.

In 2016, Calviño appointed him as Director of the Economic Analysis Division, leading the work on macroeconomic forecasts and debt sustainability as the main responsibilities, matters that he handles closely.
