National Police agents have arrested a 65-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman in Valencia for allegedly mistreating a man with a disability for whom they were caregivers for about 20 years, as reported by Headquarters in a statement.

Specifically, the man has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of injuries in the field of domestic violence, for apparently hitting, insulting and belittling the victim. The woman, for her part, has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of omission of the duty to help, since she supported the attacks and also insulted him.

The investigations by the Family and Women Unit (UFAM) of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade of Valencia began following a complaint from a relative of the victim, a man who has a 100% physical disability, total blindness. and extreme difficulty speaking for 20 years.

The agents found out that his caregivers did not feed him or clean him properly and that one of them, the man, would slap him, kick him, punch him, push him and drag him on the floor, in addition to insulting him. The woman, for her part, would allow all this and, apparently, she also denigrated him.

The victim would have suffered this situation for about 20 years, although due to her difficulty in speaking and because her caregivers did not allow her to receive visitors, she was unable to inform anyone of the facts.

After the last attack he suffered, which resulted in a hip fracture, he had to be transferred to a hospital, where he told what happened to a family member, who reported him to the National Police.

The investigators, after several investigations, have arrested the man as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of injuries in the field of domestic violence and the woman as allegedly responsible for a crime of omission of the duty to help. The two arrested, of Spanish nationality, have police records.

The man has been brought to justice and his imprisonment has been ordered, while the woman has been released once her statement was heard, after being warned of the obligation to appear before the judicial authority when required. Likewise, she has had a restraining order issued against the victim.
