The municipal government is preparing the new urban planning for the Can Batlló-Magòria area, which will convert the old railway station site into a new center for neighborhood life, a green area, sports and health facilities and public accommodation. The urban planning operation will end the border between the neighborhoods of Bordeta, Hostafrancs and Font de la Guatlla.
The new planning is based on the winning proposal of the ideas contest called in 2019 by Barcelona City Council to define the organization of the environment, which was called Campus Magòria: Conecta 4 and promoted accessibility and connection itineraries throughout the interior. the Magòria space. The project will be submitted for final approval at the plenary session of the municipal council that will be held tomorrow. Subsequently, it must go through the Barcelona Urban Planning subcommittee of the Generalitat.
The plan covers a total area of ??21,424 square meters that runs along the lines of Calle Corral in the northwest, Calle Moianès in the east – excluding the residential building at the Corral-Moianès corner and also the building of the former railway station of Majority, the Gran Via in the southeast and in the southwest the limit of Sector 2 of the Modification of the Metropolitan General Plan approved in 2006.
The transformation of Magòria will involve the permeabilization of the entire area, connecting Calle Corral with Gran Via through different passages and the opening of the facade of Calle de Moianès into a large green area.
The Magòria of the future will be structured around the football field, which will no longer be a barrier between the different spaces and equipment. The triangle formed by Corral and Moianès streets will concentrate the green area in a single piece that will extend to the civic center of the old station, on Gran Via.
The football field will be located on the façade of Corral Street up to Tort Street, a street that will gain continuity through Magòria between the football field and a new sports pavilion that the plan plans to build right next to the field, and will become a new pedestrian axis that will connect the Bordeta and the Gran Via. A municipal center for urban and cleaning services and a parking lot will be located in the basement of the football field.
There will also be two new buildings: one for social-health facilities (a 24-hour CUAP and a social-health hospital), and another with 200 staffed accommodation for the elderly and other groups with temporary accommodation needs.
The plan will be provided in the budget to be executed in phases and will be financed and promoted by other administrations. The first piece will be the urban and cleaning services equipment located underground, with a planned municipal investment of 12 million euros.
Spaces for practicing sports will occupy more than half of the entire Magòria (54.2%). The recovery of the historic football field, the construction of a sports hall and a 7-a-side football field, as well as new petanque courts, are the axis of the venue’s transformation.
The sports associations and clubs that will be users of these equipment have strong roots among the young population of the district, since they energize more than 3,000 athletes under 18 years of age. These are historic teams like Unió Esportiva Sants.
The football field will be at the level of Gan Via and will be sunken compared to Corral Street.
