This is partly due to DNA taken from bite wounds. Cheri Huss was stabbed and bitten by her attacker in her Desert Hot Springs apartment 28 year ago.

Sharron Eugene Gaddlin, 48 was stopped while driving in Gardena. He was taken into custody on Friday. He is currently being held at Riverside’s Southwest Detention Center with $1 million bail.

Hestrin stated in a statement that Cheri and her family would finally receive the justice they deserved and waited so hard for.
According to the District Attorney’s Office Huss was stabbed several times and bitten by her attacker on April 24, 1994. Investigators in Homicide determined that Huss fought her attacker. Blood left at the scene was determined as male and matches the DNA of Huss’ bite wounds.

District attorney’s officials stated that the case had been unsolved for almost 28 years until genetic testing identified Gadlin last month as a person in interest. Further investigation revealed that Gadlin was located in Thousand Palms, 12 miles from the scene where Huss was murdered.

On February 14, cold case investigators obtained a warrant from the state Department of Justice to obtain a sample of Gadlin’s saliva. Prosecutors said that the state Department of Justice lab confirmed that the Gadlin sample matched the DNA profile of Huss.

Gadlin was due to appear in court Tuesday.
