The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, confirmed that Carlo Ancelotti will be the Canarinha’s coach for the 2024 Copa América. The hiring of the Real Madrid coach was an open secret, but no member has yet of the federative entity had made the agreement official.

Rodrigues announced it during the presentation of the Fluminense coach, Fernando Diniz, who will take charge of the verdeamarela on an interim basis for one year, in the place of Ramón Menezes, coach of the sub’20, who had been exercising the function after the resignation of Tite after the disappointing World Cup in Qatar.

“Fernando Diniz is going to lead the destinies of the Brazilian team for a year and I am sure that he will be very competent, as he always was in his professional career. We are convinced of that,” said the CBF president.

The extension of the contract is only one year since Diniz is expected to act temporarily until the arrival in Brazil of the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, the CBF’s favorite to assume command of the team and whose contract with Real Madrid ends in mid- 2024. It will be his first adventure as a coach, at 64 years old.

“He is a coach (Diniz) with a game proposal very similar to that of the coach who will take over (the Brazilian team) from the Copa América: Ancelotti. They have almost the same game proposal,” he said. The Italian will thus put an end to his stage as Madrid coach in two glorious stages in which he has won all possible titles. On several occasions he seemed to take his retirement for granted when his contract with the Whites expired, but in the end he will prolong his time on the bench.

The next edition of the Copa América will be held in the United States between June 20 and July 14, 2024, which will mean that Ancelotti will have a few days to train his new players in the event that the white club reaches the final. of the Champions League, which will be played on June 1. La Liga ends the week before (May 26).

Despite the fact that the hiring of Diniz depended on finalizing some details, including whether the coach will assume any function under Ancelotti’s command, the CBF reported in a statement that the coach will be officially presented as Brazil coach on Wednesday at the CBF headquarters. .

Rodrigues explained that the Confederation has accompanied Diniz’s innovative work since he took command of Audax and that it appreciates the different way he has to train players. In fact, he is one of the fashionable coaches for his offensive and attractive proposal that is closest to the beautiful game characteristic of the country. “I am sure that he will know how to apply all that work and his competence in the national team and that he will be well received by all the players,” he said.

In the same video, Diniz said he felt honored by the mission he will carry out and highlighted mainly that the contract with the canarinha will allow him to continue as Fluminense coach. “It is a dream for anyone, an honor and a huge pride to be able to provide this service to the Brazilian team,” he said. “It will be a joint effort between the CBF and Fluminense and I am convinced that we are going to make this work and that we are going to achieve results,” he stated.

The coach assured that he already had some of the national team players under his command, such as Bruno Guimaraes and Antony, and that he has accompanied the work of the new generation of Brazilian soccer players both in Brazil and in Europe.

Diniz will debut as coach of the Brazilian team in September, when Brazil will face Bolivia and Peru for the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
