Blanca Li leaves the management of the Teatros del Canal in Madrid after four years at the helm and is replaced in the new political cycle by a management that is a complete surprise. Mariano de Paco, the Minister of Culture of the Community of Madrid, has opted for a choral direction for his stage flagship in which there will be six resident directors, six key names on the Spanish scene who will each deal with an area: Lluís Pasqual will be in charge of the international theater, Albert Boadella – who was the first director of the institution – of the lyric, Ana Zamora in the medieval and Renaissance programming, José Luis Alonso de Santos in the classical theater, Olga Blanco in the living arts and Ainhoa ??Amestoy in the Spanish repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Blanca Li, who experienced a bitter controversy after accusations of censorship by the playwright Paco Bezerra, whose work about Saint Teresa of Jesus fell from the programming, will continue to lead the Canal Connect cycle, created by her and in which they join technology and performing arts, and the Madrid en Danza festival, and will be part of the advisors of the Teatros del Canal in this new stage.

A stage in which, the counselor explained, “the regional Executive has increased its budget allocation by two million euros, reaching a total of 6.6 million” for programming and production of shows, without a doubt one of the highest in the whole country. And he has specified that the new resident directors will also be able to develop their own projects.

The objective is, according to De Paco, “to increase the positioning of these important cultural spaces in the European and Latin American scene” and open a “path of collaboration with Hispanic America.” A path in which to optimize the different institutions under the umbrella of the Community, compatibility of programming and personal and material means will be established with the San Lorenzo Auditorium in El Escorial: they will be united in the new Dramatic and Choreographic Center of the Community of Madrid.
