Bezzecchi re-engages in the title fight and Márquez hits rock bottom, 17th

The MotoGP World Championship is compressed due to the effect of the Sprint, the short race on Saturdays, in which the fourth different rider, an impetuous Marco Bezzecchi, won in Assen. The Italian, absolute dominator in all the sessions in the Cathedral, beat the leader Pecco Bagnaia. He is close to 31 points, and only 10 from Jorge Martín, sixth. The podium was completed by Fabio Quartararo, due to a suspension of Brad Binder.

The cross was again for Marc Márquez, who signed his worst result of the year, 17th, suffering from fractures and various sprains that he suffered in the fifth fall at Sachsenring. The 93 was content with having accumulated kilometers.

At the start, Bagnaia and Binder were smarter than pole sitter Bezzecchi and overtook him at the first corner. From behind, the Sprint heated up very quickly with Zarco and Martín, who rose from 10th to 7th, while Marc Márquez climbed from 17th to 11th in the first lap of the finish line.

Bezzecchi, who had been the fastest all weekend (the three tests and the qualy), took Binder out of the way to prevent Bagnaia from slipping away, which took half a second in three laps. Quartararo was still installed in fourth place on the grid, while Martín moved up to fifth after passing Zarco. Márquez was losing ground as he was passed by Bastianini, Nakagami and Di Giannantonio, dropping him to 15th place.

The attack for victory was launched early by Bezzecchi, on the fourth lap. In a double movement, Marco overtook Bagnaia, the leader resisted, and Bez finished off with a second attempt that the champion could not replicate, who was quickly losing 6 tenths with the 72nd.

Bezzecchi set the best pace he had exhibited in all the sessions and accumulated 9 tenths of a second over Bagnaia with half a race to go (7 laps). Márquez continued to suffer and dropped to 17th place, surpassed by Raúl Fernández and Augusto Fernández.

The greatest excitement was centered in the noble group, where Aleix Espargaró surpassed Martín to conquer fifth position, and Viñales did the same with Marini to be seventh. Both Aprilias were strong.

With the duel for victory resolved, with Bezzecchi taking a second from Bagnaia with two laps to go, the only uncertainty was who would close the podium: Binder, Quartararo and Aleix Espargaró aspired to third place. The third group, made up of Martín and Viñales, was far behind, 2.3s behind as they entered the last lap.

Binder and Quartararo were testing each other on the last lap, but the South African opened a small gap of two tenths and took third place. However, the KTM rider was dispossessed of the podium for not completing a long-lap and receiving a 3-second penalty; automatically, Fabio Quartararo was third and Aleix Espargaró, fourth.

Marc Márquez finished in 17th position, his worst result this year (between Saturdays and Sundays finished).
