“We are here to study a coup in the most important auction house in all of Paris,” says Pedro Alonso in the Berlin trailer. It is not that the Professor’s brother (Álvaro Morte) has been resurrected after his death at the end of the second season of La casa de papel. But, after the creator Álex Pina fell in love with the character and found any excuse to recover him even if it was based on flashbacks, he now has his prequel filmed, edited, ready for launch and with a preview that explains where the shots will go. .
It doesn’t seem like Berlin is going to alter the idea we have of Money Heist, at least in terms of plot and structure. Instead of having the Professor as the leader of an illegal operation, there is this lover of art, theft and women with a gang that this time is made up of Michelle Jenner (You would do it too), Tristán Ulloa (Gran reserva) , Begoña Vargas (Welcome to Eden), Julio Peña (Through my window) and Joel Sánchez.
And who returns? Itziar Ituño and Najwa Nimri, who played Raquel Murillo and Alicia Sierra in the original series and who, as their dynamic in the security forces suggested, had a common past. Of course, in Money Heist they did not particularly like each other and, on the other hand, on that mission in Paris it gives the impression that they were good co-workers.
What stands out about the trailer, however, is the tone. La casa de papel always tried to reconcile the light-hearted blockbuster with drama: there were deaths that affected the characters, evil characters that were deeply disturbing, and a social discourse designed for all audiences. But in this prequel it seems that the comedy and the idea of ??Money Heist as a franchise of spectacular robberies will be more accentuated.
Álex Pina wrote the eight episodes together with his regular collaborator Esther Martínez Lobato, David Barrocal, David Oliva and Lorena G. Maldonado. The premiere is scheduled for December 29 on Netflix.
