The municipal government of Barcelona will bring to tomorrow’s plenary session a government measure that plans to triple the municipal photovoltaic energy power, going from the current 5,848 kWp in 177 facilities (which is equivalent to the energy consumed by 3,178 homes each year) to 19,244 kWp in 384 installations in 2027 (which is the annual consumption of 10,450 homes), and all this with an investment of 32 million.

The mayor of Barcelona, ??Jaume Collboni, today presented the initiative – which is part of the Barcelona Climate Agreement to be a carbon neutral city by 2030 – and highlighted that the city “has a proven track record of having had the vision, sensitivity and the commitment to sustainability and decarbonization, starting with the City Council itself.”

In a previous technical session, the director of Energy Services and Environmental Quality of the City Council, Cristina Castells, explained that the City Council plans to reach 27,244 kWp of municipal photovoltaic energy in 2030, multiplying by five the figure for 2023.

Currently, municipal consumption that comes from photovoltaic energy is 2%, a figure that the City Council wants to increase to 7% in 2027, and 10% in 2030.

The 177 municipal photovoltaic installations in Barcelona are currently located in 11 markets, six district headquarters, four daycare centers, 28 schools, 10 facades and party walls, 17 libraries and 23 pergolas, among others.

To reach 384 facilities in 2027 (the last year of the mandate), 207 projects are planned in nine municipal markets, a district headquarters, 41 facilities, 83 schools (with the Pla Clima Escola), 20 infrastructures, four libraries , three facades and party walls and 28 pergolas, among others.

The maintenance and operation of the City Council’s photovoltaic installations, which are monitored, is carried out by the company TERSA.
