Barcelona City Council has opened the competition for the concession of El Molino, the emblematic space of the Paral•lel, which will become a house of flamenco, rumba, signature songs and jazz.

This emblematic space. acquired by the City Council in 2021 for 6.2 million euros, is looking for a new manager once the rules have been definitively approved and published this Wednesday in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Barcelona (BOPB), after the end of the term of public exhibition without allegations having been presented.

In a statement published today, the Barcelona Institute of Culture details that the concession will be for exclusive use of the public domain for a period of four years, with the possibility of annual extensions of up to four more years. Proposals can be submitted starting this Thursday within a period of 20 business days.

Municipal sources detail that the object of the contract is the implementation of a cultural space project with a “gastronomic proposal” that can become a “reference space for the city’s popular music” with special attention to author songs, jazz, flamenco, Catalan rumba and, in general, all those that need “a warm space, with personality and a small format and proximity to the viewer.”

The new facility wants to be a “support center for the musical fabric and creation” in Barcelona, ??so it will be taken into account that the projects presented have a management model that “is based on networking with the music sector.” of the city and Catalonia, with other creative venues or factories, civic and cultural centers, as well as associations, music schools or festivals, such as the Barnasants, the International Jazz Festival, the Ciutat Flamenco, El Dorado or the Festival de Blues.

It will also have to be “linked” with other musical spaces in Paral•lel – such as Paral•lel 62, the Sala Apolo and the Albareda cultural center – and with the “set of theater operators” located on the same avenue.
