Thirty years ago on this day, Nico Renna went to the Palau Sant Jordi for the first time to see his favorite Disney characters. His father, who participated in the production of the show, promised him that he would see Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinkerbell ice skate. Excited, he went to an appointment that he still remembers today and that he has been repeating annually. So much so that three decades later he has brought a new companion with him, his son, who “was amazed by the Disney On Ice show in Madrid”, as he admits to La Vanguardia. From this Thursday until Sunday, February 19, the show comes to Barcelona to delight the whole family.

Renna himself, who today is the general director of Proactiv, the company in charge of the production in Spain of Disney On Ice, has given details to this newspaper about what is expected of this show, which he hopes to match the numbers of Madrid and exceed 50,000 tickets. “It is a completely renewed function and one that comes with great desire to premiere in the city after the pandemic.” The last function in the Catalan capital took place “on the Sunday before the confinement. Then we had to travel to Seville but we had to cancel. So we really want to go back, and even more considering that we are celebrating our 30th anniversary”.

The skaters will be the main protagonists, as well as their nearly 170 different costumes, some of them with Swarovski crystals, made by 100 artisans dedicated to providing all the magic possible.

Spectators will also find several novelties. The first of all, the script of the story. “It is a performance in which classic characters will converge with newer ones from the factory. All part of a series of clues that Mickey, Minnie and Goofy will have to look for. To find them, they will have to go through the scenes of different films, such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast or Peter Pan, without forgetting Coco or Moana, among others”, advances Renna.

The function is based on an initial budget that revolves between 8 and 10 million dollars ”, specifies the businessman. Part of this is destined to new technologies that have been incorporated, such as the projection of kaleidoscopic images or a giant screen that will allow the public to interact from their social networks.

Renna insists that this is a good opportunity to spend the afternoon with the family. “I always say that this is a show for children of all ages. The excuse is usually to go with the child of the house, but many times it is the older ones who enjoy it the most. Without going any further, when I took my son we were seven adults. I think it was really us who didn’t want to miss it,” Renna admits with a smile.

And it is that, in the opinion of the Catalan businessman, the success of this show is based on “its transversality and that it is designed for all generations, races and tastes. All because its main mission is none other than to bring out the child in us “.
