FC Barcelona has announced this Friday that it has submitted a formal offer to the ACB for Willy Hernangómez. Real Madrid has the right of first refusal over the Madrid center, so the white club now has until July 12 at 11:59 p.m. to match the offer. If not, the Spanish would already become a Blaugrana player.

Hernangómez is currently a free agent after the New Orleans Pelicans decided not to renew the player, but his rights in Spain are held by Real Madrid. For this reason, despite the fact that Barça has presented a formal offer, the white club has the possibility of matching the figure if they want to stay with him.

The 29-year-old center was trained at Real Madrid, a club that he has recognized as being in his heart and with which he won the Cup and the ACB in the 2015-16 season. Hernangómez made his debut in the Endesa League in 2012 with Real Madrid and, after being loaned to Club Baloncesto Sevilla in the 2013-2014 and 2014-15 seasons, he completed the 2015-2016 season with the white club before making the leap to the nba.

From there he made the leap to the NBA, passing through the New York Knicks, the Charlotte Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans. Now, he wanted to return home and the Spanish international, who is 2.11 meters tall, had notified the competition of his intention to return to the Endesa League after seven seasons in the United States.

After being named MVP in the 2022 European Championship that Spain won, Hernangómez had a residual role last season in the Louisiana franchise, which rejected the option it had to extend the player’s contract before June 29.

After the goodbye of Saras Jasakevicius, the blaugrana group builds the new project with Roger Grimau at the helm. In recent weeks, the termination of Nikola Mirotic’s contract and the non-renewal of Sertac Sanli have been made official, and the club seeks to reinforce its inner game along with Jan Vesely and James Nnaji, whom it intends to retain despite having been elected to the position 31 of the NBA Draft, with the addition of Hernangómez, if Madrid does not avoid it.
