Badalona (Barcelonès Nord) will once again have a boat this year that will be in charge of cleaning the coastal waters. The municipal government has carried out the bidding process for this service in a month, which will come into operation in the coming days to minimize the problem of the presence of floating solid waste in the bathing area and on the beaches of the municipality’s coastline. Dirt caused by this type of material is one of the most recurring criticisms from bathers on the Badalonian coast.

The service will include the floating solids collection vessel, as well as the personnel and the means or materials necessary to carry out the cleaning tasks. The collection and removal of floating and semi-submerged solids in the bathing area, as well as other waste and substances present in seawater. The management of waste and materials collected through an authorized waste manager and the improvement of three days of cleaning with an aquatic drone.

To clean the bathing waters, the boat will work from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day of the week, weekends and holidays included. The start of the service is scheduled for the first week of August and the expected cost is approximately €29,000.

The Councilor for the Environment Area of ??the Badalona City Council, Sonia Egea, stated that: “We have worked against the clock to be able to make the emergency contracting of the boat, since the previous government had not left anything done and although we are already halfway through the bathing season, we understand that it is a necessary service to improve the quality of the environment and for the enjoyment and leisure of its users”.
