Badalona cuts off the power to two occupied houses

The Badalona City Council (Barcelonès Nord) has cut off the electricity supply that was obtained illegally to two occupied properties in the city. It is a house located in the Canyet neighborhood and an old company occupied for a long time in the El Remei neighborhood, at the confluence of Guifré street with Primavera street, where the people who occupy the premises have caused various complaints from the neighborhood about noise and other nuisances.

In the case of Primavera Street, the light was detected illegally hooked directly to the general connection. The City Council withdrew access to the connection, but the squatters drilled a hole in the wall to remove a cable and illegally connect directly to a streetlight. For this reason, the company responsible for public lighting has welded the access to the streetlight to prevent them from directly accessing the wiring and obtaining direct electricity supply, thus avoiding not only energy fraud, but also a public safety problem.

The mayor of Badalona, ??Xavier Garcia Albiol, has pointed out that the situation of these two occupied properties in relation to the electricity supply “put the surrounding residents at risk, in addition to posing a consumption that affects all the residents of the city.” . Albiol has highlighted the importance of actions like this in the context of the fight against conflictive jobs, which have an impact on coexistence and security. “We will continue fighting in defense of the neighbors who want to live in peace,” he added.
