The Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced this Thursday an increase in compensation of between 10,000 and 63,000 euros per home for those affected by Metro line 7B in San Fernando de Henares, addressing “non-material damage due to cohabiting”.

Ayuso explained, in the plenary session of the Madrid Assembly, that the legal services “have found the possibility” of increasing compensation, after those affected complained about the regional government’s proposal, considering it “insufficient”.

The maximum amount that had been established for those affected ranged between 355,000 euros and 136,000 euros, to which the consequential damage had to be added, and finally the increase will range between 10,000 and 63,000 euros, depending on each case, which makes an average of increase of more than 34,000 euros.

Regional government sources have detailed that until now this concept of non-material damage contemplated an amount for the owner of the apartment, to which additional amounts were added for the cohabitants, and now, in the case of these homes with several family members, compensation will be to each member of the family who resided in the property, reports Efe.

For this expansion, the Madrid government is going to allocate 14 million euros, an item that will be increased if necessary.

To date, eighteen families have accepted the compensation offered by the Community of Madrid: two houses, one tenant and fifteen garages.

According to Ayuso, this morning he has ordered the neighbors to be called “one by one” to explain “this new situation.”

In each compensation offered, the regional Executive includes the value of the demolished property, the value of the land, the value of the belongings, the lost profits, the moral damage and the emergent. This last concept refers to the payment of the rent from the completion of the emergency file and other additional expenses that have been incurred, sources from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, directed by David Pérez, have explained.

In the event that they have taken advantage of the advance of 4,788 euros for six months (798 euros per month), the difference in the cost with the current rent will be added to the final compensation.

In addition, they have added that at this time the Community of Madrid is taking care of all the costs of accommodation, maintenance, supply costs (water, electricity and heating), as well as the furniture storage service for the residents of 59 homes that they are evicted.

From the Department directed by David Pérez they have pointed out that they are “in permanent contact” with the affected families and meet periodically with all of them and with the merchants to offer them first-hand information in relation to their homes and the next steps to follow .

Metro line 7B has had to be cut several times due to damage caused by the geology of the land on which it was built, and the large amount of groundwater has weakened its infrastructure and more than 600 homes in San Fernando de Henares, in addition to commercial premises and public spaces and buildings.

As a consequence of the damage and movements of the subsoil, several residential units have had to be demolished.
