At least 14 injured, two of them seriously, when a bus falls on construction sites in Esplugues

At least 14 people have been injured – one of them in critical condition, another in serious condition, six in less serious condition and six in minor condition – when a metropolitan bus fell through a hole in some construction site. The vehicle from the Rosanbus company and managed by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB), provided service to the L10, which goes from Sant Feliu de Llobregat to El Prat, passing through Cornellà.

The accident took place precisely on the border of this municipality with Esplugues de Llobregat, on Sant Ildefons avenue, where a new urban area is being developed in the Montesa neighborhood.

The main hypothesis for the reason for the accident is an illness of the driver. In this sense, sources from the Rosanbus works council have explained that “he had communicated through the SAE internal service, by radio, that he was feeling unwell and had an illness.”

According to these same sources, the protocol has been activated to send “an ambulance and a substitute” but at that time “the connection has been cut.” Without being able to contact him again, he regretted the accident. “It had started its service about 15 minutes earlier,” these same sources added. Very little time has passed between the warning and the accident, just a few minutes.

There were 25 people on the accident bus, most of whom were able to get out on their own, although 14 of them required the attention of the Medical Emergencies System (SEM), which traveled to the scene after receiving the notice at 1:49 p.m. The injured person in critical condition has been transferred to the Bellvitge hospital, while the seriously injured person is at the Moisès Broggi hospital.

The six less serious ones have been distributed among the hospitals of Bellvitge, Broggi, Clínic, Sant Boi and CUAP in the Sant Ildefons neighborhood in Cornellà. The other six slightly injured people have been transferred to the same CUAP and to the Viladecans hospital.

No injuries have been reported, however, among the construction personnel who were working there at that time, where a new neighborhood is being built and traffic changes are constant.

In addition, several Firefighters of the Generalitat have controlled the diesel leak resulting from the accident and the stabilization of the vehicle.
