“A high table with low occupancy, they call it the Villacís Model, and it is thanks to what we achieve.” This is how the acting deputy mayor of Madrid, Begoña Villacís, answered this Tuesday, after being asked about her possible legacy in the city after not obtaining representation in the last municipal elections held on 28-M.

Villacís has highlighted the role developed by the vice mayor’s office to allow the installation of a high table with two stools on a bar or restaurant terrace to help the capital’s hospitality during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I have worked a lot, a lot, a lot. Seeing all the sectors, the trade for which I have fought, the hospitality industry, fashion… thank them for their work so sincerely, they do not do it for any other interest,” he indicated. after receiving a tribute from these sectors in the Barceló Market.

Faced with this gesture, Begoña Villacís has recognized herself “impressed, grateful and in love with the city”. Villacís has highlighted about his work at the head of the Vice Mayor’s Office that he has dedicated himself to “listening a lot to civil society” thanks to the fact that he came from the private company, where “either you work every day, or the company is destined to die , and taking that thought to the public administration is what has worked”.

The image of Villacís cutting one of the tapes used by the Police to cordon off the terraces in the harshest phases of the pandemic went viral as soon as Madrid entered phase 1 of the de-escalation. The solemnity, reflected in the image that illustrates this news item, with which the Acting Deputy Mayor endowed the act did not go unnoticed on social networks.

At a general level, Villacís has admitted that the “sorrow and shock” that arose on the election night of May 28 when he did not obtain representation in Cibeles have turned into “great affection” shown by the people of Madrid towards him.

Villacís has valued the speech he offered to the media when he learned that he was left out of the next term in the Madrid City Council for not having obtained the 5% of the votes necessary to have representation. “It was most sincere, one of the most appropriate. One has to know how to win, I have done it many times. I have loved being the deputy mayor of this city and representing the liberal party in Madrid”, she has added straight away .

Although, he remains with the “much affection” that he receives from the people of Madrid and from those sectors to which he goes to “say goodbye”.
