The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a repeat thief whom they link to 8 robberies at tourist apartments in the Barcelona district of Eixample in which he seized money, jewelery and other valuables in the amount of 38,000 euros. As reported this Wednesday by the Generalitat Police, the 58-year-old detainee had 19 criminal records, 16 of them related to similar robberies.

The detainee located flats and apartments intended for tourist uses in the Eixample district and took advantage of the continuous turnover of clients, who were unaware of the previous robberies. To do this, he carried out surveillance around the building where he planned to carry out the robberies before entering the interior, where he went unnoticed by the neighbors, accustomed to the constant movement of tourists.

The criminal knew the corners of the buildings, which he took advantage of to hide when hearing noises, as well as the entrances and exits of tourists. The person under investigation accessed the apartments with keys or access codes that he had obtained illegally, or used utensils to open doors without causing damage.

As a result of the investigation, since the first complaint filed last December, 8 robberies in these apartments were related and resolved, 4 of them in the same building on different dates. The investigators arrested the author on September 12 and two days later he was handed over to the Investigative Court number 25 of Barcelona.
