Agents of the National Police have arrested in the town of Alicante a man who allegedly extorted his victims by demanding that they make donations – between 2,000 and 15,000 euros – for the Palestinian cause when, in reality, the money was for his personal gain.
The facts were brought to the attention of the National Police by the owner of a ‘hallal’ type butcher shop who, fed up with the constant harassment to which the now arrested man had been subjected, decided to report the facts.
In his complaint he reported that a man had been frequenting his establishment making propaganda to help the Palestinian people and asking him for large sums of money, in theory to help the Palestinian population.
After several attempts to achieve his end, the harasser began to make threats against the businessman, based mainly on ruining the reputation of his business and defaming him with emails that he would send to his bosses and suppliers implicating him in crimes that he had not committed.
In fact, the arrested person generally reinforced his threats by telling him that “he was not afraid of anyone since his status as a political asylum protected him,” as well as that the Police could not arrest him, especially when he showed up at the victim’s premises and He tried to provoke him with insults and threats, explains the Headquarters in a statement.
As the victim did not comply with his demands and did not respond to the provocations, the extortionist sent an email to the company for which the affected person worked trying to undermine his personal and professional image, so the affected person ended up reporting the facts in view. that the demands increased and the level of aggressiveness in the threats increased as well.
This was not the only victim of the extortionist, since the manager of another ‘hallal’ butcher shop also reported similar incidents at the Police Station. In this case, the arrested person even tried to get another individual to introduce drugs into the butcher shop to harm him, with the fortune for the affected person that this person was his friend and not only did he not attend to the detainee’s request, but he informed him of it.
This new victim also said that this individual sometimes stands at the exit of the mosques and with the same pretext asks the attendees for money to help the Palestinian people, which he obtained on several occasions, since he is a “person eloquent”.
And as in the previous case, the threats became increasingly insistent, imperative and aggressive, with the victim fearing for his integrity and that of his family and business.
This is how Organized Crime Group I of the UDYCO of the Provincial Police Station of Alicante began to investigate and discovered that this man even organized “charity meals” with which he intended to raise money for the Palestinian people.
The police investigations also revealed that there were more victims of the extortionist, obtaining “clear evidence” that proved the facts reported by all the victims, one of whom was reported by the harasser and subsequently coerced into paying him if he wanted the complaint removed. , always with aggressive language and under “the false belief that he was untouchable due to his status as a Palestinian asylum,” the Police emphasize.
The investigative group carried out the necessary steps regarding this individual and verified that he was driving a vehicle without a valid permit or procedures for its issuance, so once located he was arrested and charged with the crimes of extortion, serious threats and crime against traffic safety.
The detainee – a 49-year-old man of Palestinian origin – has been placed at the disposal of the Investigative Court on duty in the same town.
