The Civil Guard has arrested a man who, early last Saturday, collided with his car head-on with another vehicle in Torrevieja, whose driver died as a result of the accident. According to the armed institute, the person responsible for the accident escaped on foot from the scene of the accident.

The Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 1 of the Alicante town has decreed his release with precautionary measures.

The accident occurred last Saturday, September 2, around 4:50 a.m., at kilometer 57,450 of the N-332 highway near the municipality of Torrevieja. A car collided violently with another that was traveling on the road. After the impact, the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident left the scene on foot.

Agents from the Torrevieja Traffic Detachment units, the Reporting Team and the Investigation and Analysis Group of the Traffic Subsector of the Alicante Civil Guard were brought to the scene. Once at the scene, medical services confirmed the death of the driver of the car.

The investigators in charge of the report carried out an exhaustive inspection of the scene and made the necessary inquiries to locate the alleged perpetrator, after verifying that the abandoned car belonged to a rental company. The agents observed that the contract had been signed by a couple of Irish nationality and once identified, they took extreme precautions to prevent them from leaving Spain.

Finally, investigators managed to arrest the alleged perpetrator, a 29-year-old man of Irish nationality, being investigated for the crimes of reckless homicide and leaving the scene of the accident.

On September 4, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the Investigative Court No. 1 of the judicial district of Torrevieja, who ordered his release with the imposition of precautionary measures.

The Civil Guard recalls that this type of behavior carries with it 1 to 4 years in prison for the crime of reckless homicide and 3 to 6 months in prison and the prohibition of the right to drive for a period of 6 months to 2 years. due to the abandonment of the scene of the road accident.
