This first weekend in June, carpets of natural flowers cover the streets of the town of Arbúcies, as can be seen in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.
This spring flower display has been declared a Traditional Festival of National Interest. Not surprisingly, it has been celebrated for more than 500 years and has encouraged public participation.
Each rug has a different story and working method. Once the theme has been chosen, different figurative elements, current affairs or those aspects that Arbúcies personalizes are sought to capture the chosen idea with the composition of a rug.
The flowers and leaves used to make these floral compositions are native to the La Selva region, mainly Montseny. And their varieties and colors give uniqueness to each composition.
This Sunday afternoon the winning rugs will be announced and then the parade or cercavila will take place through Arbúcies, when the rugs are stepped on until the streets are turned into a multicolored mat.
