Agents of the National Police have arrested a man and a woman in relation to the anti-militarist protest last Tuesday at the Expojove children’s and youth fair in which they threw pink paint on a Cavalry Reconnaissance and Combat (VRCC) vehicle of the Army, “causing damage to it,” according to what the security forces have reported.

The detainees are a 54-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, both of Spanish nationality, who are accused of crimes of damage and crimes against State institutions. This morning it was confirmed that both are free with charges.

The Provincial Information Brigade of Valencia continues with the investigations and “new arrests are not ruled out,” explained the National Police.

The events occurred this Tuesday, the first day of the Expojove fair, organized by the Valencia City Council. The presence of the Armed Forces at the event led to a rally outside and an action in which two people stained a tank with pink paint and climbed onto the vehicle.

Inside the fair, two people climbed onto a military tank and poured pink paint on their clothes and on the vehicle as a sign of protest, holding up signs with the slogans ‘Les armes no eduquen’ (weapons do not educate) and ‘war does not educate’. It’s a joc’ (war is not a game). The Local Police identified the two people, according to municipal sources.

Furthermore, at the entrance to the event, a group of people protested the presence of the Army with the distribution of leaflets and showed banners on which slogans could be read such as ‘For a culture of peace and not war’, ‘War It is not a game and weapons do not educate’, ‘We will demilitarize education’ and ‘Out with the Expojove Army’ and the name of entities such as the Moviment d’Objecció de Consciència and Assemblea Popular València contra les guerres.
