The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a plot that affects the Ministry of Finance during the time of Cristóbal Montoro and the office of tax advisors that he himself set up before joining the various executives of the Popular Party for using his influence to benefit companies that were clients of the Popular Party. dispatch.

As La Vanguardia has learned from sources in the investigation, the matter is led by Anti-Corruption as well as by the Investigative Court number 2 of Tarragona, which has been carrying out these investigations since 2018.

What we are trying to find out is whether the Economic Team would have charged large sums of money to influence the Ministry of Finance and the Tax Agency. This matter, of enormous complexity, has already been analyzed by the Provincial Court of Tarragona itself, which in several resolutions has been reviewing Court resolutions on telephone wiretapping and secrecy of proceedings.

The investigation focuses on a plot whose purpose “would be none other” than to intervene and influence “decisively” favorable legislative reforms for the gas companies included in the Association of Industrial and Medicinal Gas Manufacturers (AGGIM), as stated in an order of the Provincial Court of Tarragona.

To do this, they allegedly hired the services of Equipo Economico, the consultancy founded by Cristóbal Montoro, who was Minister of Finance during the two terms of office presided over by Mariano Rajoy.

As stated in the order of the Provincial Court of Tarragona, the members of the Economic Team held positions “at the highest level” of the Government, Central Administration and Autonomous Communities, “creating a network of influence over senior officials and officials of the Ministry of Finance to obtain tax benefits in favor of said gas companies, through legislative modifications that entailed a reduction in the electricity tax for said companies.”

The records explain that the amounts obtained by said services due to their amount and legal void are covert commissions to achieve the intended legislative reforms.
