Carlo Ancelotti is experiencing one of his best moments as coach of Real Madrid. One day after celebrating his 36th league title, the Italian gave a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game against Alavés at the Bernabéu: “I feel better than ever. The honeymoon continues. I am happy and excited. I do press conferences without pressure. You are too affectionate, but I know that sooner or later the problem comes, but now that there is no problem, I enjoy it,” he commented with a laugh.
Ancelotti said that many of those who rested in Granada will play against Alavés and that Courtois and Militao will play: “I have to take Lunin into account and also that the best goalkeeper in the world is returning and needs minutes. The objective is to reach the final with the entire squad at its best. In the week before the final we will make the decision of who plays it. Tchouaméni’s foot no longer hurts, but he has a very difficult time reaching the final. Militao, if it were tomorrow I wouldn’t be able to, but I hope I can be at my best in these two weeks.”
Bellingham is in the fight for the top scorer, but it is not an issue that Madrid is going to pursue: “We are not thinking about this. We think Bellingham has already achieved its goal, helping the team and surprising everyone. The top scorer is not important to us.”
Ancelotti was also asked what the worst moment of the season was: “I have no doubt the most difficult. We have lost a game and it was there (against Atlético in the Metropolitano). Since that game we have been able to understand that we have had to change. That defeat helped us change in defense and now it has been good for us. It’s been an easy season thanks to the players.”
Ancelotti spoke about the players who have surprised him the most: “Difficult to say. The one he knew the least was Fran García, who has done well, especially at the beginning of the season. Joselu and Brahim have also done very well. There are players who could contribute more if I gave them more minutes. Ceballos has not had the minutes he deserved for several reasons. Arda Güler could also have played more if it weren’t for injuries. The squad has surprised me on a general level.”
The Madrid coach commented on which players in his squad he sees with the potential to be coaches: “I think several have the quality to be coaches. You have to want to be. Considering the difficulties, many players do not want to be because they see a lot of responsibility and pressure. Carvajal, Nacho, Ceballos, Kroos or Modric could.”
