The municipal government of the Madrid City Council has proposed that the Medals of Honor that are awarded on the occasion of the San Isidro festival, on May 15, be awarded to the journalist Ana Rosa Quintana, to the singer Olvido Gara (Alaska) and to Melchor Rodríguez García -known as the red angel for his humanitarian work to prevent murders-, who was mayor of Madrid during the Civil War.

The names have been announced at a press conference after the city’s Governing Board by the municipal government spokesperson, Inmaculada Sanz, who has confirmed that the proposals will be raised to the next plenary session next April for final approval.

In the Madrid Medals category, the federation of organizations for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities Plena Inclusion Madrid, the playwright Juan Mayorga, the battle painter Augusto Ferrer Dalmau; the bullfighter El Juli; the ex-bailaora and businesswoman Blanca del Rey; the Mª Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation, for its work promoting and investigating Spanish Historical and Artistic Heritage, the designer Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, the writer and jurist Antonio Pau, the group of older women Leaders of Villaverde, the Casa del Libro, for its first centenary; the businessman Clemente González Soler, and finally, the Primary Archconfraternity of the Royal and Illustrious Slavery of Our Father Jesus Nazareno.
