An 87-year-old woman died on Saturday night and her 90-year-old sister was poisoned by smoke inhalation in the fire at her home, located at number 12 Delicias Street, in the Madrid district of Arganzuela.
A spokesperson for Madrid Emergencies reported that around 10:30 p.m. the alert about this event was received and firefighters from the Madrid City Council and assistance from Samur-Civil Protection went to the scene.
Samur-Civil Protection assistance could only confirm the death of the 87-year-old woman and treated her sister for smoke poisoning. She is hospitalized.
The firefighters extinguished the fire, which had broken through the interior façade of the building, ventilated the house and checked the rest of the floors without any being affected. Madrid Police officers blocked traffic on the street while the incident was dealt with.
The fire, details the Madrid Emergency spokesperson, has left the house badly affected.
