An eight-year-old boy, who drowned this Tuesday in the Can Zam pool in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelona), has died at the Germans Trias i Pujol hospital in Badalona after he was admitted yesterday, as confirmed by the town hall in a statement.

The incident occurred around 11 in the morning this Tuesday, when the child was participating in a group activity at a municipal summer camp. A team from the Servei d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) went to the facilities to “proceed with resuscitation and subsequent transfer to the hospital” where he remained in the ICU until, early this afternoon, the health workers regretted his death.

Local Police agents have been regularly visiting the minor at the hospital, since he was admitted, to inquire about the child’s state of health. This afternoon the consistory has activated different municipal care and mediation services to accompany the minor’s family “in these difficult times.” In addition, the city council “will decree 3 days of mourning and flags at half mast.”

The case is now under investigation by the Mossos d’Esquadra to clarify the facts.
