An aurora borealis is visible tonight in the skies over much of Spain, at least from Andalusia to Catalonia, Aragon, Galicia and the Valencian Community, as various meteorological and astronomical observatories have published on social networks.
The electromagnetic phenomenon, typical of the polar regions, has been captured in the Valencian Community by webcams in the municipalities of Xert, Forcall and Benicássim, in Castellón de la Plana; Camporrobles, in Valencia; and Altea and Villena, in Alicante.
According to the Valencian Association of Meteorology (Avamet), the reddish light in the night sky can be seen looking in a northeasterly direction.
The Astronomical Observatory of Calar Alto, in Almería, has also reported on the phenomenon: “Once again an aurora borealis honors us with its presence in Calar Alto,” it has published in X.
The northern lights have also been seen from the Torremocha del Jiloca Observatory, in Teruel, and from the Peña Trevinca, in the Orense region of Caballeda de Valdeorras.
This weekend the possible visualization of an aurora borealis in the skies of Spain was expected due to a great geomagnetic storm that the Earth is suffering.
A similar phenomenon was seen in the Valencian Community in 2003, according to the meteorological services of the eastern peninsular region.
