The Court of Seville has sentenced a lieutenant of the Civil Guard to eight years and ten months in prison who had helped drug traffickers and was tried last February for crimes of bribery, attempted drug trafficking and attempted theft. attempt after the guilty verdict issued by a popular jury.
The jury considered it proven that the lieutenant of the Civil Guard had helped drug trafficking organizations and that he had tried to steal a shipment of hashish that was guarded at his workplace, the Montequinto Command, in Dos Hermanas (Seville).
In the ruling, dated March 14 and notified this Monday to the parties in person, the Court sentences the accused civil guard to five years in prison, eleven years of special disqualification for employment or public office, and the payment of a fine of 3,600 euros for a bribery crime.
In addition, he is sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of 1,500,000 euros for another charge of drug trafficking; six months in prison for theft and four months for a second crime of attempted theft, with the mitigation of undue delays, while he is acquitted of a crime of revealing secrets.
Likewise, the Court sentences a second investigated person to a year and a half in prison and the payment of a fine of 1,080 euros for bribery; one year in prison and a fine of 600,000 euros for attempted drug trafficking; two months in prison, which by legal imperative are replaced by the payment of a fine of 720 euros, for the crime of attempted theft; and three months in prison for a second crime of attempted theft, with the mitigating circumstances of confession and undue delay.
A third defendant has been sentenced to nine months in prison and a fine of 600,000 euros for attempted drug trafficking; two months in prison, which by legal imperative are replaced by the payment of a fine of 720 euros, for attempted theft, and three months in prison for a second crime of attempted theft, with the mitigating circumstances of late confession, drug dependence and undue delays.
According to the Court, the popular jury considered it proven that the lieutenant of the Civil Guard, assigned in the years 2019 and 2020 to the Citizen Security Unit of Seville, through the second of the accused, José María C., “with who maintained cordial relations and whom he had known for many years, was aware of his contacts with people who were dedicated to drug trafficking.
The main convict “agreed to collaborate by offering the police information that, as an intermediary between the drug traffickers and him, was requested” by José María.
The Civil Guard agent “accessed the databases to which he had access due to his position, but the information was of little relevance or interest to drug traffickers,” so he tried to attract” an undercover agent – a Civil Guard official Judicial Police, lieutenant of the EODA and responsible for the investigation of drug trafficking in Seville, who had been judicially authorized for said action.
On the night of August 7, 2020, the three defendants, accompanied by the undercover agent, went to the Commandant’s container where the drugs involved in police operations were kept and, “knowing that there was a significant amount inside of hashish, they seized 29 bales.”
The defendants left another 16 similar-looking bales containing sand at the place where the drugs were located so as to “not raise suspicions that they had taken the drugs,” after which they loaded the bales into a van that was intercepted by the Guard.
