Franck Kessié is the seventh Barça player to join the long list of injuries. The Ivorian midfielder has an elongation in the adductor of his right thigh. It is difficult for him to be in the second leg with Inter and he is doubtful for the Bernabeu classic on October 16.
Kessié, who played the last minutes of Inter-Barça entering in the 83rd minute in Gavi’s position on the inside right, was injured in training this Wednesday morning at the sports city. That’s where Xavi’s men trained after conceding defeat at the San Siro. They have done so still angry and upset with the controversial arbitration decisions. Barcelona does not file a formal complaint but it will let UEFA know its discomfort.
In San Siro Christensen was also injured. The Dane was replaced by Piqué after suffering a sprain of the external ligament of his left ankle. With the loss of the Danish, added to those of Araújo and Koundé, Xavi is left with only two central defenders (Eric García and Piqué) to receive Celta on Sunday at the Camp Nou and to play the game against Inter at home on Wednesday prior to the visit to the Bernabeu to play the classic against Madrid (Sunday 16, 4:15 p.m.).
Looking ahead to the Clásico, Xavi hopes to recover Koundé in defence. The former Sevilla player, who left the French national team during the international break, was only able to play twenty-three minutes in the France-Austria match before being replaced by William Saliba after injuring the biceps femoris in his left thigh. Not so Héctor Bellerín, who injured the soleus of his left leg while training in Barcelona during the international exodus.
Also victims of the FIFA virus were Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay. De Jong, who is already training with the group, will be in the next game against Celta. On the other hand, Memphis still has between two and three weeks left after injuring the biceps femoris in his right thigh.
