Carlos Alcaraz faces this Friday, September 9, the American Frances Tiafoe for a place in the grand final of the US Open in the United States. The semifinal will be played on the Arthur Ashe court at 1:00 (Spanish time).
The Spaniard reaches the semifinal after sealing an epic victory in the fifth set against the Italian Jannik Sinner (6-3, 6-7, 6-7, 7-5 and 6-3), after a battle of five hours and fifteen minutes. With victory, Alcaraz has become the youngest semifinalist of a ‘big’ since Rafa Nadal, who reached that round, with the same age, at Roland Garros in 2005.
The 19-year-old from Murcia has already made sure to enter the podium of the world ranking and the first position is still within his reach. He will be number one if he wins the title, but he can also be if he reaches the final and Norwegian Casper Ruud falls in the semifinals against Russian Karen Khachanov.
