The Government continues to send messages to its Catalan partners to demonstrate its desire for co-official languages ??to have a greater role outside. The Executive has not yet achieved that Catalan, Galician and Basque are official languages ??in the European Union, as committed in its investiture agreement with Junts, but the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, continues to send messages that demonstrate the good will of the Government.
This Wednesday, during the minister’s speech before the Conference of Presidents, which was inaugurated by the President of the Government, Albares asked for the first time, publicly and directly, the ambassadors to defend the co-official languages ??in the countries in which they represent Spain.
In his speech, José Manuel Albares instructed the ambassadors to make it “a priority” and “fundamental” task in their work to defend “our co-official languages: Catalan, Galician and Basque, showing those countries in which they are present the linguistic and cultural diversity and richness of Spain”. “That,” said the minister, “is also a fundamental task that you should proudly walk around the world.”
Likewise, the foreign minister asked all ambassadors “to enhance and support the work of the Cervantes Institute in promoting the language and teaching it in the world, which “is fundamental.”
According to Albares, in 2024, Cervantes will continue to strengthen its role: consolidating the network of centers, expanding the digital skills of the teams, using digitalization to improve and create new services and products in the field of teaching, teacher training, linguistic certification and Hispanicism.
And within this improvement of the Cervantes Institute, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, “the actions to disseminate the Spanish language and our culture will be reinforced,” José Manuel Albares stressed.
