Alavés did not take advantage of Mendizorroza’s field factor and could not get past a goalless draw against Levante, who will play the second leg of the promotion phase final at the Ciutat de València on Saturday. At stake is the last promotion place to First Division. The first two were already achieved directly, as Granada and UD Las Palmas were the first two in the standings.
In Vitoria a very competitive game was played, close and with very few opportunities, but the clearest were from Levante, who ran into a good Sivera. In these cases, the teams prefer not to lose their options than to ensure a result that is almost definitive.
Luis GarcÃa Plaza’s Alavés, in favor of a crowd that is very pressing, was more incisive and sought more possession. Although Montiel warned in the first minute with a shot from distance that Sivera saved, Alavés had more of the initiative in the first half and rounded up the goal more with crosses into the area well defended by the central veterans of Levante, Postigo and Pier.
The second part began with the clearest chance of the game. At minute 49, Iborra recovered a ball in midfield and launched a shot that was not a goal due to Sivera’s great stretch. The second warning from the granotas came immediately, at 52, a header from Bouldini that did not find the goal. The reply reached 57 in a free kick by Toni Moya and a save by FemenÃas.
From the hour of play came the changes in the two teams. The game entered a phase once again of greater dominance by the locals who were not taking advantage of their dominance. In full harassment of Alavés, in the 80th minute, a withering counterattack from Levante arrived and Wesley Moraes stood up to Sivera, who took the shot from him in another great save. Then there was a shot from De Frutos that hit the post.
The referee gave five minutes added. They passed between nerves and inaccuracies. There were no more chances and the game ended 0-0, a draw that leaves the granotas a little happier. Everything will be decided in Valencia on Saturday.
