Aigües de Barcelona maintains its investment commitments for the drought, despite the disagreement between Agbar and its owners Veolia. The company that manages water in the metropolitan area has an investment plan of 900 million euros in the coming years, to comply with Law 9/2023 of the Generalitat.
Aigües de Barcelona is 70% owned by the Agbar group, 15% by Criteria and another 15% by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area. According to La Vanguardia, there is currently a disagreement between Agbar and its owners, the French company Veolia, over investment plans for the drought.
In February, the French group approved its new strategic plan, called Green up, which contemplates new investments in the field of water concession management. According to this information, Veolia’s top executives now consider that Aguas de Barcelona’s anti-drought investments are incompatible with the financial plan they have designed for the multinational group. However, investments in Aigües de Barcelona are committed by law.
So far, Aigües de Barcelona has already completed the work on the potable water treatment station (ETAP) of Sant Joan Despí and the works in the first phase for the ETAP Besòs. The expansion of the reverse osmosis treatment system in the Estrella well, in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, is also being carried out, and the construction of a new field of wells located in Santa Coloma de Cervelló, Sant Joan Despí and Sant Feliu de Llobregat. In the list, there are still works pending to be executed.
