Police said that a 4-year-old girl was killed and a 40 year-old man were injured in a shooting at a “celebratory event” in Akron on Friday night.
The victims were not identified and were taken to a local hospital where they later died. Police said that the medical examiner would perform autopsies in order to determine the causes of their deaths.
Police responded to a call at Akron’s residence around 9:15 on Friday. They found a “chaotic scene” that included victims who had been “severely wounded” and were also suffering from gunshot wounds. Police stated that the suspect or suspects fired into a crowd at a nearby “celebratory gathering”.
It is unclear how many people were hurt or were taken to the hospital.

In the weeks following Jayland Walker’s passing, violence and protests have increased in the city.
After an unsuccessful traffic stop, Walker was shot 60 times more by police on June 27. Police said that a police officer reported that a gunshot was fired from Walker’s car.
Protests and chaos erupted across the city of Ohio following his murder. During the protests, relatives of Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor — two other prominent victims of police shootings – were taken into custody.
Walker’s family called for calm and order in the city.
