Aena practically takes it for granted that normality has returned. The airport manager announced this Friday to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) that it is modifying its forecasts upwards after the activity in May has meant a recovery of 97.6% compared to the figures for May 2019, before of the pandemic and the mobility restrictions that it entailed.
In this way, Aena has announced that it is revising its estimate of passenger traffic for the end of 2022 upwards, from the current 68% to a range of between 75% and 85% over the figures for 2019.
The airports of the Aena network have closed the month of May with 22,262,317 passengers, a figure that is 9.6% of the levels prior to the pandemic. In the accumulated figure for the first five months of the year, the number of passengers stands at 80,619,033, a recovery of 80.1% of passenger traffic compared to the same period in 2019.
However, in terms of aircraft management, 208,745 operations were carried out, which means that recovery of 97.6% over 2019. Likewise, 83,022 tons of cargo were moved, which represents a decrease of 3.2% compared to to the same month of 2019.
Of the total number of travelers registered in May, 22,206,428 corresponded to commercial passengers, of which 15,084,449 traveled on international flights, 12.4% less than in May 2019; and 7,121,979 did so on domestic flights, 2.9% less than before the pandemic.
