The mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, as municipal manager of the Plan of Actions to prevent the effects of the Heat Wave on the Health of people in the Municipality of Lleida (POCSMLL), has declared the activation of the plan to prevent adverse effects on the health of the population in general and specifically on the most vulnerable.

This Tuesday, July 11, temperatures have exceeded 40 degrees in many parts of the Segrià and that represents a high risk temperature for the population. It represents a 5 out of 6 for intense heat. The Social Action and Innovation Councilor intensifies calls to the most fragile people and individualized monitoring is carried out from the basic teams of primary care and child care.

In addition, the population and especially the most vulnerable, such as those over 75 years of age, the chronically ill, the physically or mentally disabled, the indifferent, and the homeless or directly exposed to the effects of heat, have been asked to follow a series of indications.

Mainly, keeping the house as cool as possible by closing the blinds and windows and cooling the environment with fans or air conditioning. If these resources are not available, it is recommended to spend at least two hours a day in air-conditioned places such as shopping malls, clubhouses, or movie theaters.

On the street it is recommended to seek shade, avoid going out at noon, wear a cap or hat and wear light clothing. Also, get your face and clothes slightly wet, watch out on car journeys when there is more sun and limit intense physical activity. In the same way, it is recommended to drink a lot of water, not drink alcoholic beverages and avoid very hot foods.

In phase 2, from Civil Protection, volunteers who may be needed in a situation of overcoming high danger will be activated, in order to be able to attend to vulnerable people and who do not have adequate conditions at home and offer municipal premises authorized to make this type of accommodation.

In parallel, material resources are reviewed, such as the equipment of the air-conditioned municipal premises, in order to guarantee the operation of the air conditioning devices and check the availability of food and valid spaces for temporary accommodation, if necessary.

CECAT has also put the Special Emergency Plan for Forest Fires of Catalonia (INFOCAT) on pre-alert status because there is a risk of fire in the regions of Garrigues, Pla d’Urgell, Urgell, Segarra, La Noguera and the Segrià
