The company committee of the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has issued a statement in which they ask that the different social sectors, including the agricultural sector (although they do not expressly cite it), stop pressuring for à la carte solutions. individual character. “The ACA cannot be a reason for political games, it cannot adopt compromises to look good or make tailored suits depending on who makes the most noise. It is necessary to appeal to responsibility and serenity in moments of tension,” say the workers in a statement that can also be read as a warning to political leaders.
The statement is a response from the workers, after having seen their work questioned in the heat of the farmers’ demonstrations, which have broken Minister David Mascort’s promise to reorganize the ACA’s supply area, where the measures against the drought, as indicated last week after meeting with him.
In the face of criticism from farmers (who even called for the dismissal of ACA director Samuel Reyes), ACA workers regret that some sectors have questioned the commitment of these employees to public service and to the work they do. has been entrusted to them.
They remember that to alleviate the restrictions provided for in the special drought plan, the ACA has undertaken various measures (subsidies to the local world, savings plans for the industry), for which they ask the different economic sectors and social agents to “stop “of using the ACA as a weapon to obtain private returns”
“We ask that the people who are in charge of drought management, of great technical value and extensive experience, not be questioned,” says the statement, which also demands that “political and institutional trust” be granted. necessary to allow them to work with serenity and equity and provide the public service that this country deserves.
The workers have stopped the mobilization announced in the statement of March 1 while they decide to debate, in a calm and assembly-based manner, the actions to be taken according to the political decisions that affect the internal organization of the ACA.
ACA workers remember that Catalonia has, for the first time, a Special Plan for actions in alert situations and eventual drought approved by the Government in January 2020.
And in this framework, the ACA “has been working for some time in a determined, reasoned and balanced manner”, and isolated from the “partisan clamor”, with the objective of facing this extreme situation and “of undertaking actions that minimize the economic and social impact of a situation caused by the progressive scarcity of water.”
